[fr] L'étude de la matérialité en sciences du langage ainsi qu'en sciences humaines et sociales est beaucoup plus difficile qu'il n'y paraît et qu'on ne le proclame. Pourquoi ? L'article pointe une série de difficultés liées aux termes clés-et à travers eux, aux conceptions-du material turn actuel : « support », « performance »… et « matière » parmi d'autres. Il s'attaque en outre à l'idéologie médiatique des « contenus » et de l'« accès ». Il avance finalement des concepts remèdes comme « gestes » ou « montage », et plus largement une approche où les formes émergent directement des « matériaux », dans la durée ; les discours se « transforment », voire se « trans-formattent », d'un medium à l'autre ; le faire sémiotique en somme l'emporte pour de bon. [en] The study of materiality in linguistics and semiotics as well as in the humanities and social sciences is much more difficult than it seems and than it is often claimed. Why is this? The article outlines a series of difficulties linked to the key terms – and through them, to the key conceptions – of the current material turn: ‘support’, ‘performance’... and ‘matter’ among others. It also challenges the media ideology of ‘content’ and ‘access’. Finally, it puts forward remedial concepts such as ‘gesture’ and ‘montage’, and more broadly an approach in which forms emerge directly from ‘materials’, over time; discourses are ‘trans-formed’, or even ‘trans-formatted’, from one medium to another; in short, semiotic making prevails for good.
