The Open Researcher & Contributor ID (ORCID) was created in 2009 to address the problems of homonymity among researchers in scientific communication. It is a unique form of identification for authors of scientific publications.
It is a free, permanent identification assigned to you only. It is a global id system to enable researchers to create a research profile, that can be viewed by others including funders, publishers, researchers etc. As an open service, it is often interoperable with other systems.
You can edit your profile and add your existing ORCID or create a new.
Your ORCID:
In practice, use your ORCID to:
If you don’t already have one: create your ORCID account now in less than one minute.
With only a few clicks, link MyORBilu to ORCID and choose the authorisations you wish to assign. By giving ORBilu permission to link with your ORCID, you will allow us to:
Always begin by depositing a reference in ORBilu, as this ensures your content is visible across the web to various harvesters and preferably open access. After a day or two, login to ORCID, select ‘add new’. ORCID should discover your reference either from ORBilu or another source (e.g. BASE). You can then add the reference to your ORCID account automatically. You can also export content from ORCID into ORBilu in BibTeX format.
You can also link your ORCID with publisher manuscript submission systems and funding application systems that use it.
You stay in control!
At any given time, you and you alone decide who can access your data and to what extent.
Your ORCID profile will automatically be expanded with the information collected through the authorisations you give to trusted organisations. But first, it is important to make your ORCID profile unique and easily recognisable.
You can therefore complete your profile manually and add the following:
You can add this information by encoding it yourself but also, whenever possible, by using import tools.
