Abstract :
[en] COVID-19’s lockdown confronted the University of Luxembourg, and thus the authors of the article, with the overnight unavoidable changeover of teaching to remote mode. The authors consider remote mode to decode as teaching and learning of apparently distance subjects in distance education. With special regard to medieval studies this entails the discussion of pre-modern and as such distant content and texts, that causes the remote to be doubled. Up to now, this immediate reality was completely unprecedented and teaching practice has never been exposed to the situation without any contact hours to convey content. Therefore, the master’s course (Discourses on luck and happiness, so-called “Glück” in the old German literature of the Middle Ages) serves as a case example to help us understand how medieval content, of an époque far from us, can be transferred to the students present, flanked by opportunities and simultaneously barriers in the teaching and learning process. Both the special mediality that is inherent in the medieval texts – they were spoken performed – and the learning subject of “Glück” represents an adversarial in a reality shaped by COVID-19.
