Abstract :
[en] Manipulating information to disinform is the scourge that is spreading in today's digital society. In Luxembourg, 98.9% of people surveyed said they had already been confronted with false information or information that distorts reality, according to the first Medialux study. With social networks and artificial intelligence, this phenomenon has become more widespread. Increasingly difficult to identify by the public, disinformation is spreading in a variety of forms: fake news, misinformation, reinformation, deepfakes. This phenomenon represents a real danger for democratic states. Disinformation can have a negative influence on people's choices and the formation of their opinions, particularly during election periods. This final conference in the Mediareform series will be an opportunity to examine the societal and ethical issues raised by disinformation. How can we effectively combat disinformation while avoiding fuelling polarised opinions and a climate of mistrust? To what extent does artificial intelligence amplify the phenomenon? Should disinformation be more tightly controlled?
These questions will be explored in greater depth in the presence of the Minister Elisabeth Margue, Delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of Media and Connectivity, who will give the closing address.
