Abstract :
[en] This contribution draws attention to the motivations of linguistic behaviour and its effects in the professional context of a European institution. Qualitative interviews disclosed a habit of stressing the importance of 'native English’ in a multinational team. The analysis of stances linked the habit to an undesirable objectification of ‘native English’ trainees and stereotypical assumptions about their language skills – a revelation that prompted managers to revise their approach to the talk about language.
