Orthogonal Procrustes Problem; unrestricted number of dimensions
Abstract :
[en] l'vlatching by the Procrustes method involves the transformation
of a matrix A to maximal agreement with a specified target matrix B. The
present paper is concerned with the soluti on of the 'Orthogonal Procrustes
problem' when the column orders of A and B are different. Avai lable techniques
ei ther yield nonunique solutious or the column order of one matrix has to
be adjusted by truncating or adding some columns. A new method i s advanced
which provides a unique sol,ut.ion without constraining the number of columns
of corresponding matrices. An illustrative example is given.
