Abstract :
[en] Population aging is an increasingly pressing reality in Portugal, necessitating the development of public policies that promote healthy aging. This narrative review identifies the primary challenges and opportunities for crafting policies aimed at healthy aging and preventing ageism. Based on a bibliographic survey of scientific articles published in major databases, the review highlights key challenges such as combating age-related prejudice, ensuring equitable access to essential services and resources, and the need for robust data collection and monitoring systems regarding healthy aging. Furthermore, it emphasizes the potential to create opportunities for older individuals to feel integral to society while contributing meaningfully. Policies that encourage the active participation of older adults can enhance their quality of life and enrich the community.
