Abstract :
[en] Cultural and linguistic diversity is increasingly a characteristic of European societies, calling for a change of perspective and innovative models for action. Against this backdrop, multilingualism and interculturality research of recent decades has experienced a tangible boom and gradually set itself apart from other fields. The topic of the symposium is the broad field of multilingualism, made a strategic focus by the University of Luxembourg on the basis of the social challenges arising in the context of immigration and cross-border commuting. Working in cooperation with invited speakers, the symposium aims to discuss empirical results but above all approaches, concepts and methods of multilingualism research in the social, educational and cultural sciences from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, as well as to develop common points of reference. The results of the symposium will be further developed within the ‘MIS – Multilingualism and Intercultural Studies' key area and ‘Education’ research priority at the University of Luxembourg.
