Souvent née sur des bases proto-industrielles, elle est mécanisée très tôt dans la plupart de ses branches (de la filature à la confection en passant par le tissage, la teinture, le blanchiment et l’impression) et forme ainsi et parfois de vastes concentrations industrielles, qui s’imposent aux côtés d’implantations restées plus modestes. Mais cette branche pionnière est aujourd’hui souvent présentée en Europe comme une activité du passé, dont l’essentiel a été délocalisé dans des pays du Sud à bas coût de main d’œuvre. [en] The textile industry has had a long time to transform the industrial landscape of the Greater Region SaarLorLux, as it is one of the earliest industrialised economic activities. Often born on a proto-industrial basis, it was mechanised very early on in most of its branches (from spinning to weaving, dyeing, bleaching and printing to clothing) and thus formed, sometimes, vast industrial concentrations, which imposed themselves alongside more modest establishments. However, this pioneering industry is now often presented in Europe as an activity of the past, the bulk of which has been relocated to low labour cost countries in the South. [de] Die Textilindustrie hatte viel Zeit, die Industrielandschaften der Großregion SaarLorLux zu verändern, da sie eine der am frühesten industrialisierten Wirtschaftsaktivitäten ist. Sie entstand oft auf protoindustrieller Basis, wurde in den meisten Bereichen (von der Spinnerei über das Weben, Färben, Bleichen und Bedrucken bis hin zur Konfektionierung) sehr früh mechanisiert und bildete so und manchmal auch große Industriekonzentrationen, die sich neben kleineren Ansiedlungen durchsetzen konnten.
