[fr] Si les premiers équipements sportifs remontent à l’Antiquité, le XIXe siècle est quant à lui marqué par leur diffusion au bénéfice des classes sociales aisées. Ce n’est qu’au XXe siècle que la démocratisation et l’enrichissement de la société, relayés par le volontarisme politique, leur a donné un essor qui ne s’est pas démenti. De plus en plus grands, certains de ces équipements voient s’adjoindre à leur vocation sportive première d’autres objectifs, de nature culturelle (concerts...), récréative (boutiques...) ou professionnelle (séminaires...). La limite entre ces objectifs devient ténue. Elle fait des grands équipements sportifs une catégorie d’objets géographiques inédite porteuse d’enjeux considérables en termes de construction territoriale. Devenus centres de profits, parfois seulement financés par le secteur privé, le plus souvent appuyés par un partenariat dans lequel les collectivités territoriales relayent leur ambition de développement, ils constituent des révélateurs et figurent parmi les plus importants moteurs de la dynamique des territoires dans lesquels ils s’inscrivent.
[en] Although the first sports facilities date back to Antiquity, the 19th century was marked by their diffusion for the benefit of the wealthy social classes. It was not until the 20th century that the democratisation and enrichment of society, supported by political will, gave them a boom that has not been denied. Some of these facilities are becoming larger and larger and, in addition to their primary sporting vocation, have other objectives of a cultural (concerts, etc.), recreational (shops, etc.) or professional (seminars, etc.) nature. The boundary between these objectives is becoming tenuous. This makes large sports facilities a new category of geographical objects with considerable stakes in terms of territorial construction. Having become profit centres, sometimes financed solely by the private sector, and more often than not supported by a partnership in which the local authorities relay their development ambitions, they are revealing and are among the most important drivers of the dynamics of the territories in which they are located.
[de] Während die ersten Sportanlagen bis in die Antike zurückreichen, war das 19. Jahrhundert geprägt von der Verbreitung von Sportanlagen für die wohlhabenden Gesellschaftsschichten. Erst im 20. Jahrhundert wurden die Sportanlagen durch die Demokratisierung und den Wohlstand der Gesellschaft sowie durch politische Maßnahmen weiterentwickelt und haben bis heute nicht nachgelassen. Einige dieser immer größer werdenden Einrichtungen haben neben ihrer eigentlichen sportlichen Bestimmung auch andere Ziele wie Kultur (Konzerte...), Freizeit (Boutiquen...) oder Arbeit (Seminare...). Die Grenze zwischen diesen Zielen wird fließend. Dadurch werden große Sportanlagen zu einer neuen Kategorie von geografischen Objekten, die erhebliche Herausforderungen für die territoriale Entwicklung mit sich bringen. Sie werden zu Profitcentern, manchmal nur privat finanziert, meist aber durch eine Partnerschaft unterstützt, in der die Gebietskörperschaften ihre Entwicklungsambitionen vertreten, und sind somit ein Indikator und einer der wichtigsten Motoren für die Dynamik der Gebiete, in die sie eingebettet sind.
