[en] Siegfried, the hero of the Middle High German »Nibelungenlied«, is not only interesting as
a figure from the perspective of a German-national myth formation. This article aims to
show that Siegfried is also important from the perspective of ›intercultural medieval studies‹.
Therefore, the Siegfried figure in the Nibelungenlied is determined by cultural hybridity.
His Scandinavian counterpart, Sigurd, is no less revealing as a cultural mediator.
