Diplomatics; Critical edition of medieval documents
Abstract :
[en] From its foundation in the decade 1230, onward, the Dominican priory of Marienthal has played an important role in the life of the county, later duchy of Luxembourg, as documented by its rich monastic archive.
This paper aims at pursuing the critical editorial work carried out at the end of 19th century by Nicolas Van Werveke by publishing 12 unedited charters dating from the 14th and 15th centuries, which are today preserved in the archive group Marienthal, prieuré des Dominicaines. 1268-1793, at the State archive in Arlon. This critical edition is introduced by a short analysis of the dispersion of the monastic archives since the end of the monastic institution in 1783, and of the creation of this archive group in Arlon during the 19th and 20th centuries.
