This paper seeks to systematize them and presents a processual shift, a multiplicity shift, and a complexity shift. These trends describe different analytical focal points and an increasingly differentiated engagement with borders. The paper concludes by addressing the still insufficiently defined category of social practice and the potential that practice theories hold for border studies.
