Abstract :
[en] Although there are an impressive number of Luxembourg public and private research-orientated institutions that in part offer their own university courses, the University of Luxembourg, founded in 2003, stands out among institutions in the higher education sector. This pre-eminence is due, not least, to its offering young people, for the first time, the opportunity to pursue higher education in a fully-fledged university which is a Luxembourg state institution. The increase in student numbers over the past ten years demonstrates the attractiveness of the University of Luxembourg to both domestic as well as international students. A total of 6,157 students from over 100 countries were enrolled at the University of Luxembourg for the year 2013–2014. Though the University of Luxembourg focuses on international excellence, it also has as one of its stated aims the provision of knowledge gained from research to further Luxembourg's social development. Although the University of Luxembourg has an important role in the educational landscape in Luxembourg, it is only part of a constantly developing tertiary system for the production of knowledge and teaching. Together with other public research institutes such as the CRP-Gabriel Lippmann, the CRP-Henri Tudor and the CRP-Santé it shall help to contribute to diversifying Luxembourg‘s economic future by focusing on other sectors besides finances, taking into account the growing need for new knowledge and sustainable education.

Même s’il existe au Luxembourg un nombre considérable d’institutions publiques et privées axées sur la recherche, dont certaines proposent des cursus en régie propre, l’Université du Luxembourg, fondée en 2003 se détache nettement des autres institutions du secteur éducatif tertiaire. Cette position prééminente lui revient notamment puisque, en tant qu’université à vocation généraliste, elle offre pour la toute première fois aux jeunes l’opportunité de faire des études universitaires au sein d’une institution publique luxembourgeoise. Le nombre croissant d’étudiants pendant les 10 dernières années prouve à quel point l’Université du Luxembourg est attrayante tant pour les étudiants autochtones que pour les étudiants étrangers. Pour l’année 2013/2014 un total de 6157 étudiants provenant de plus de 100 pays différents étaient inscrits à l’Université du Luxembourg. Même si l’Université du Luxembourg met l’accent sur l’excellence internationale, un des objectifs déclarés consiste également en la mise à disposition du savoir issu de la recherche en faveur du développement sociétal au Luxembourg. L’Université du Luxembourg joue certes un rôle important dans le paysage éducatif luxembourgeois, mais n’est toutefois qu’une composante d’un système de production du savoir et d’enseignement tertiaire qui ne cesse de se différencier. Elle est appelée à contribuer, de concert avec d’autres instituts de recherche tels que le CRP-Gabriel Lippmann, le CRP-Henri Tudor ou le CRP Santé, à diversifier l’avenir économique du Luxembourg au-delà du secteur des finances et de répondre aux besoins croissants en nouvelles connaissances et en éducation durable.

Obwohl es in Luxemburg eine stattliche Reihe von staatlichen und privaten forschungsorientierten Institutionen gibt, die zum Teil eigene universitäre Studiengänge anbieten, ragt die 2003 gegründete Universität Luxemburg über andere Institutionen des tertiären Bildungssektors heraus. Diese Vorrangstellung nimmt sie nicht zuletzt deshalb ein, weil sie als Volluniversität der Jugend zum ersten Mal die Chance bietet, ein Hochschulstudium in einer staatlichen Institution Luxemburgs zu absolvieren. Die über die letzten 10 Jahre steigenden Studierendenzahlen belegen die Attraktivität der Universität Luxemburg sowohl bei den einheimischen als auch bei ausländischen Studierenden. Insgesamt waren im Jahr 2013/2014 6.157 Studierende aus über 100 Nationen an der Universität Luxemburg eingeschrieben. Liegt der Fokus der Universität Luxemburg auch auf internationaler Exzellenz, so gehört es doch auch zu ihren erklärten Zielen, das aus der Forschung gewonnene Wissen in den Dienst der gesellschaftli- chen Entwicklung Luxemburgs zu stellen. Obgleich die Universität Luxemburg eine wichtige Rolle in der Bildungslandschaft Luxemburgs einnimmt, ist sie nur ein Teil eines sich stetig ausdifferenzierenden Systems von tertiärer Wissensproduktion und Lehre. Zusammen mit anderen Forschungsinstituten wie dem CRP-Gabriel Lippmann, dem CRP-Henri Tudor oder dem CRP Santé soll sie dazu beitragen, die wirtschaftliche Zukunft Luxemburgs über den Schwerpunkt der Finanzen hinaus zu diversifizieren und dem ständig wachsenden Bedürfnis nach neuem Wissen und nachhaltiger Bildung Rechnung zu tragen.
