Abstract :
[en] This document addresses the main results and conclusions of a study on the autonomy of radiographers in Portugal. The main objective of the study was to understand and verify the level of autonomy of radiographers in Portugal, considering the organizational climate in which they usually perform their duties.
To achieve this goal, a descriptive study was carried out, through the application of a paper-based survey to the radiographers of five Portuguese public hospital units. For the analysis and interpretation of the results, recognized contributions from the sociology of the professions were framed, namely the works of Larson, Maurice, Parson, Hughes, among others.
The main results of this study verbalize the idea of a certain emptying of the functional autonomy of the radiographers, verifying the inexistence of a relationship between their autonomy and professional satisfaction. They also emphasize in the conclusions that the autonomy of radiographers can be achieved in the renowned professional space, maximizing the disputes between clinical and technical responsibilities. However, if the autonomy of this professional group is understood as the ability to perform perfectly the functions already belonging to them, without any kind of supervision, applying the best of theoretical knowledge to the most correct practice, then the radiographers can gain autonomy, and in turn more professional power, exploring more of their tasks that are not restricted to medical delegations.
