[en] The 38th volume of Alta Musica presents research from the 27th IGEB Conference, held in Valencia and Paiporta from 11–15 July 2024, coinciding with IGEB’s 50th anniversary. The event gathered scholars from 14 countries, reflecting the international scope of wind music studies. Valencia, renowned for its worldwide famous wind orchestra tradition, provided an ideal setting for discussions on cultural and academic dimensions of wind music. Organised with the "Federación de Sociedades Musicales de la Comunidad Valenciana" (FSMCV), the conference included concerts by local ensembles and a premiere of "Euphonika, Obertura para un aniversario!" by Llorenç Mendoza Ruiz. IGEB, founded in 1974 to elevate wind music from its “subculture” status, has advanced research through conferences, publications like "Alta Musica" and heritage projects. Its mission combines scholarly inquiry and promotion, fostering global recognition of wind music as a legitimate field within musicology.
