[en] The 38th volume of Alta Musica compiles 22 scholarly articles from the 27th IGEB Conference held in Valencia and Paiporta in July 2024, marking IGEB’s 50th anniversary. The event celebrated the rich wind music tradition of the region and featured concerts, premieres and academic discussions. Topics include historical research on instruments like the keyed trumpet, tuba, and cornet; performance practices and early sound recordings. Compositional studies explore figures such as Louis Durey, Jodie Blackshaw and Kevin Walczyk, alongside issues of notation ambiguity. Articles address societal roles of wind bands in shaping national identity, civic life and rehabilitation, as well as health challenges like Musician’s Focal Dystonia and pedagogical strategies for well-being. Technological integration, including AI applications and electroacoustic classifications, is examined, along with heritage preservation. The foreword underscores IGEB’s mission to legitimise wind music research and promote interdisciplinary collaboration globally.
