A workshop on sense of belonging and future jobs for school children Grade 7 and 8

The workshop "My future profession" was held by Dr. Gabrijela Aleksić from the University of Luxembourg. The aim of the workshop was to identify skills and interests related to the future job, as well as to creatively present them. Eighth and seventh grade students participated in the workshop. In the first activity, students individually answered questions related to (1) skills and talents ("What am I good at?"), (2) interests ("What do I like to do?"), (3) feedback from other people in the environment ("What do people say I'm good at?"), and (4) curiosity ("What do I want to know more about?"). In small groups of 3–4 students, each student shared the answers to the previous questions. After each sharing, the rest of the group considered the two possible careers that fit each student's list. The group representative then shared their answers and possible careers with the other groups (e.g., fashion designer, veterinarian, doctor, car electrician). In the last activity, students designed a postcard about their future job. On the front side of the A5 paper they drew a job symbol while on the back they wrote (1) the job title, (2) why it suits them, (3) one skill they need to develop and (4) one thing they would do on a typical day. This was followed by presentations of postcards that will be displayed in the classroom of eighth graders.
