Abstract :
[en] Amid global disruptions challenging EU values, universities face rising distrust and political pressure. As disinformation spreads, their role in upholding truth, while historically ambivalent, remains vital. European higher education must reinforce its core missions—knowledge preservation, innovation, and public engagement—grounded in academic freedom and openness. This conference organised by the Bridge Forum Dialogue and Europe Direct at the University of Luxembourg, together with tehir different partners, facilitated an exchange between Prof. Patrizia Nanz (EUI, Florence), Prof. Marie-Hélène Jobin (University of Luxembourg) with a wider in-person and online audience on the role of higher education in addressing contemporary democratic and societal challenges.

Europe Direct at the University of Luxembourg (ED-UNILU) is a public history project co-funded by the European Union (Ares (2021-2025) 5501634, which the is geared towards a broad multicultural and multilingual audience, with the aim of informing students, researchers, teachers and the general public about issues related to the European Union’s history and current affairs, as well as reflecting on potential future challenges. The C²DH is committed to high-quality research and public dissemination in the field of contemporary history with a particular focus on digital methods and tools. he C²DH’s ambition is to venture off the beaten track and find new ways of doing, teaching and presenting contemporary history of Luxembourg and the history of Europe in the 20th and 21st centuries. It serves as a catalyst for innovative, creative and interdisciplinary scholarship and new forms of public dissemination.
The European University Institute (EUI) is an international postgraduate and post-doctoral research-intensive university and an intergovernmental organisation with juridical personality, established by its founding member states to contribute to cultural and scientific development in the social sciences, in a European perspective.
