Music Education; Luxembourg; History; Traditions; Schools
Abstract :
[en] This contribution reviews the development of music education in Luxembourg since the
Grand Duchy's state independence in the mid-19th century. To understand the somewhat
atypical Luxembourg context, it is necessary first to elucidate some historical and linguis
tic facts which have made the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg a country at the centre of
two traditions. Then, it is appropriate to decipher musical education from a somewhat
vulgarised perspective and only later to address the musico-historiographical facts.
In addition, a distinction will be made between music education in general education
and music education in (specialised) music schools
