[en] We intend to study the use of quando introducing a direct or indirect question, a temporal or causal clause and their communicative aim in different literary genres: Plaute’s Comedies, Livy’s History of Rome, Cicero’s orations and Lucretius didactic poetry. We will show that the communicative aim of the question is connected to the literary genre, while the causal clause has in itself a specific communicative aim. Finally, the temporal clause has a diachronic specificity that should be investigated further.
