Abstract :
[en] The decision of 14 July 2023 by the Norwegian data protection authority (DPA) Datatilsynet is receiving a lot of attention throughout Europe. With that order the authority imposed a temporary ban on the processing of personal data for the purpose of behavioural advertising against subsidiaries of the US Internet groupMeta Platforms, namelyMeta Platforms Ireland Ltd. and Facebook Norway AS collectively.1 Meta owns, among others, the online services Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. According to Datatilsynet, Meta had failed to comply with an earlier instruction by the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC)2 and had not brought the processing operations within Facebook and Instagram into compliance with Article 6(1) GDPR.
