Palace of the Republic; temporary art gallery; East German ceremonial building
Abstract :
[en] Bettina Pousttchi staged photographs of the Palace of the Republic, which has since been pulled down, so that around 800 individual posters attached to the exterior walls of the temporary art gallery give the impression of a miniature version of the former East German ceremonial building. The artist achieves confusing moments through image processing. A digitally created line effect is reminiscent of close-circuit camera footage or a secret peek through closed blinds. Pousttchi’s staged photographs reflect on the individual’s faculty of memory and the suggestive role that the medium of photography plays in it.
