[fr] CBBS, The Well, Fidonet, Geocities, DDS, Calvacom, le Minitel … autant d’espaces, de « communautés virtuelles », où, des années 1970 aux années 1990, les premiers adoptants des communications médiées par ordinateurs ont forgé des réseaux sociaux numériques, qui ne portent pas encore ce nom. Ils nous interrogent sur les ruptures et continuités entre ces expériences du passé et celles d’aujourd’hui et invitent à une réflexion sur les traces laissées par ces communautés, pour mieux penser celles à notre disposition demain.
[en] CBBS, The Well, Fidonet, Geocities, DDS, Calvacom, the Minitel are some of the « virtual communities » and spaces, where, from the 1970s to the 1990s, the early adopters of computer-mediated communications built digital social networks, which did not yet bear this name. They challenge our definition of social networks, invite us to consider the continuities and disruptions between these past experiences and those of today, but also the traces left by these communities, to better consider the future of our born-digital heritage.
