[en] This conribution reviews theevidence for royal presences in an area around the Meuse river, viewed as a frontier space between the Wester Frankish kingdom and the regnum Lotharii, between 843 and 935 (that is the Treaty of Verdun, dividing Louis the Pious' empire in three shares and the incorporation of Lotharingian in the Easter kingdom under the Ottonian rulers. Building on recent literature on the subject, it is argued that the main sites of royal presence should not only be viewed as places between east and west, but also as points of communicaiton between north and south. A rather continuous use of places is to be noticed.
