Plus d’un tiers (34.1%) de ces immigrés sont installés dans la Ville de Luxembourg. Au cours de la même période 65 627 personnes ont migré d’une commune à l’autre au sein du pays. Une tendance claire se dégage, à savoir le fait de quitter la Ville de Luxembourg vers une autre commune. On compte 4 507 personnes venant d’une autre commune qui se sont installées dans la capitale, mais 12 035 personnes l’ont quittée pour une autre commune. On peut donc déceler deux modèles géographiques différents pour l’immigration et les migrations internes. La capitale attire beaucoup d’immigrés (une proportion qui dépasse largement la part des habitants de la capitale dans la population totale), alors que, pour les migrations internes, il y a plus de personnes qui déménagent de la Ville de Luxembourg vers une autre commune que le contraire. Les structures par âge des immigrés et des personnes qui migrent en interne se ressemblent fortement. Il s’agit principalement de jeunes adultes et de leurs enfants. Mehr als ein Drittel (34.1 %) dieser Zuwanderer lebt in Luxemburg-Stadt. Im gleichen Zeitraum sind innerhalb des Landes 65 627 Personen von einer Gemeinde in eine andere gezogen. Hier zeigt sich jedoch die klare Tendenz aus der Hauptstadt wegzuziehen. Zwar sind 4 507 Menschen aus andern Luxemburger Gemeinden nach Luxemburg-Stadt gezogen, im Gegenzug sind aber 12 035 Menschen in andere Gemeinden umgezogen, so dass sich ein negativer Binnenwanderungssaldo für die Hauptstadt von –7 528 Personen ergibt. Für die Einwanderung und die Binnenwanderung gelten also zwei gegensätzliche räumliche Muster. Das Hauptziel der Einwanderung aus dem Ausland ist die Hauptstadt, die verglichen mit ihrem Bevölkerungsanteil überproportional viele der Zuwanderer anzieht. Bei der Binnenwanderung ist jedoch die klare Tendenz zu erkennen, dass deutlich mehr Personen aus der Hauptstadt in die anderen Gemeinden abwandern als umgekehrt. Hinsichtlich der Altersstruktur gleichen sich aus dem Ausland Zugezogene und im Inland Umgezogene. Vor allem junge Erwachsene und ihre Kinder ziehen um, ältere Menschen hingegen kaum.
