A identificação de dificul-dades de memória operacional em sala de aula é, portanto, uma área promissora que pode ajudar professores, pais e autoridades educacionais a dispor a seus filhos/alunos a intervenção adequada em caso de dificuldades educacionais. Este guia prático foi especificamente desenvolvido para professores, pais, autoridades educacionais e quaisquer outras pessoas envolvidas em ambientes escolares ou interessadas em memória operacional e aprendizado. Würde sich der Wohlstand einer Gesellschaft am Bruttoinlandsprodukt pro Kopf bemessen, hätte das Emirat Katar international die Nase vorn, gefolgt von Luxemburg und Norwegen. Rang vier würde das Sultanat Brunei auf der Insel Borneo belegen, wo seit 1988 Parteien verboten sind und der Sultan per Dekret regiert. Ganz so einfach sollte man es sich mit der Wohlstandsmessung nicht machen. Um den Reichtum einer Gesellschaft vergleichend zu beurteilen, bedarf es weiterer Kriterien. Die Suche nach dem guten Leben beschäftigt Philosophen seit Platon und Aristoteles. Auch heute mangelt es unter Sozialwissenschaftlern nicht an Theorien der Gerechtigkeit. Der Ökonomie-Nobelpreisträger Amartya Sen und die Rechtsphilosophin und diesjährige A.SK-Preisträgerin Martha Nussbaum haben einen ganz eigenen Maßstab entwickelt, um den Zustand eines Gemeinwesens zu prüfen - weit über ökonomische Kennzahlen hinaus. Kann ein Mensch ein Leben führen, für das er sich aus guten Gründen entschieden hat und das seine Selbstachtung garantiert, fragen sie. Kann er sich bilden, arbeiten und politisch engagieren? Hat er Zugang zum Gesundheitssystem? Steht ihm angemessener Wohnraum zu Verfügung? Verwirklichungschancen (capabilities) haben Sen und Nussbaum ihren Ansatz genannt. Dahinter steckt eine zweifache Annahme: Der Einzelne ist seines Glückes Schmied, aber sein Leben gelingt nur in dem Maße, wie die Gesellschaft ihn dabei unterstützt. [less ▲]

When integrated into signage, the international symbol of accessibility designates accessible spaces and facilities. In just a few decades, this icon has become ubiquitous throughout the world, now seen in nearly every airport, parking lot and public space. The diverse local interpretations of the icon mirror the shift from exclusion to inclusion of disabled people in the human rights revolution witnessed since the end of WWII. The traditional icon displays a figure and a real life object. In so doing, the access icon unwittingly creates a cyborg (see Haraway 1991): the wheelchair and its human user become one. Paradoxically, this global icon refers simultaneously to disability, and its ameliorating factor, accessibility. Only recently has a new type of access icon developed, dissolving the cyborg as it features an active rider—asserting the primacy of personhood and participation. The (wheelchair) mobility icon—and related icons for vision, hearing, and information access—have become among the most widely recognised representations of disability. The icons attest to early attempts to support wayfinding and communicate issues of physical access to places. Alongside disabled individuals themselves, these icons provide daily interactions with issues of accessibility and disability. In fact, in many countries, this icon is the most commonplace visual representation of disability, becoming virtually synonymous with it. Thus, its metaphorical importance far exceeds the marking of accessible spaces. [less ▲]
