Software systems are increasingly subject to regulatory compliance. Extracting compliance requirements from regulations is challenging. Ideally, locating compliance-related information in a regulation requires a joint effort from requirements engineers and legal experts, whose availability is limited. However, regulations are typically long documents spanning hundreds of pages, containing legal jargon, applying complicated natural language structures, and including cross-references, thus making their analysis effort-intensive. In this paper, we propose an automated question-answering (QA) approach that assists requirements engineers in finding the legal text passages relevant to compliance requirements. Our approach utilizes large-scale language models fine-tuned for QA, including BERT and three variants. We evaluate our approach on 107 question-answer pairs, manually curated by subject-matter experts, for four different European regulatory documents. Among these documents is the general data protection regulation (GDPR) – a major source for privacy-related requirements. Our empirical results show that, in ~94% of the cases, our approach finds the text passage containing the answer to a given question among the top five passages that our approach marks as most relevant. Further, our approach successfully demarcates, in the selected passage, the right answer with an average accuracy of ~ 91%. [less ▲]

Estimating worst-case execution times (WCET) is an important activity at early design stages of real-time systems. Based on WCET estimates, engineers make design and implementation decisions to ensure that task execution always complete before their specified deadlines. However, in practice, engineers often cannot provide precise point WCET estimates and prefer to provide plausible WCET ranges. Given a set of real-time tasks with such ranges, we provide an automated technique to determine for what WCET values the system is likely to meet its deadlines, and hence operate safely with a probabilistic guarantee. Our approach combines a search algorithm for generating worst-case scheduling scenarios with polynomial logistic regression for inferring probabilistic safe WCET ranges. We evaluated our approach by applying it to three industrial systems from different domains and several synthetic systems. Our approach efficiently and accurately estimates probabilistic safe WCET ranges within which deadlines are likely to be satisfied with a high degree of confidence. [less ▲]

This chapter presents a broad overview about the essential aspects of learning and teaching geropsychology in tertiary education. After an introduction to the scope of geropsychology and the need for geropsychology education, the objectives and basic principles of geropsychology curricula are discussed. Their overall goal is to qualify students and/or professionals to understand and solve psychological aspects of problems of older people in the contexts of practical application, research, and teaching. Specific teaching and learning objectives in geropsychology are described in terms of underlying content dimensions (e.g., areas of acting, functioning, and development of older people; basic components of practical geropsychological acting; target groups and settings) and levels of competency to be acquired (e.g., uni-, multi-structural, relational, and extended abstract level). This is followed by an overview of the core topics of geropsychology. These refer to theoretical (e.g., basic concepts of age, aging and the elderly; action competence of older people; challenges in later life; resources for adaptation; problems of people providing services to older adults), normative (ethical and legal) and methodological foundations (research, assessment, evaluation and intervention methods). This is followed by sections on linking main learning objectives and core topics of geropsychology to courses within study programs (psychological or non-psychological) and about the relations between teaching, learning, and assessment in geropsychology. The chapter concludes with information about resources for these issues including relevant URL links, tips for teaching and annotated references to further reading. [less ▲]

Replication studies are important for the empirical research process. Yet, while there is an increased awareness of the need for replication in management research, it appears that such studies are rarely published in leading management journals. Importantly, we lack a comprehensive overview of replication studies in the top management journals that spans all sub-disciplines. Our systematic review closes this gap and provides an overview of the prevalence, types, outcomes, and impact of replication studies in management journals. We find that differences in the prevalence of replications between sub-disciplines exist and that most replications are wide replications. With regard to the replication outcome, our review shows that the share of non-confirming replications is low. Moreover, such replications are cited less often than confirming replications pointing towards a confirmation bias in management research. We discuss the implications of our results for authors, reviewers, and editors of management journals. [less ▲]

To address known privacy problems with the EMV standard, EMVCo have proposed a Blinded Diffie-Hellman key establishment protocol, which is intended to be part of a future 2nd Gen EMV protocol. We point out that active attackers were not previously accounted for in the privacy requirements of this proposal protocol, and demonstrate that an active attacker can compromise unlinkability within a distance of 100cm. Here, we adopt a strong definition of unlinkability that does account for active attackers and propose an enhancement of the protocol proposed by EMVCo. We prove that our protocol does satisfy strong unlinkability, while preserving authentication. [less ▲]

The Grand Duchy is considered as the third most open economy in the world, with an openness rate of 158.2% of GDP. The country has an export-intensive economy, with a recurrent trade deficit. The share of foreign trade in Luxembourg’s GDP is currently higher then 30%. Even in the context of the Covid-19 crisis, the country is pursuing its strategy of public investments. Direct and indirect investments envisaged to reach 4.3% of GDP in 2021, a significantly higher cap than the average of 3.7% during the years 2015-2019.Luxembourg has a highly qualified workforce (59.6% of the active population). Over the past 12 month the overall employment growth rate was 1.6%, and that related to the cross-border workers was 2,2%. Two-thirds of jobs created in Luxembourg are aimed at higher education graduates.With an outstanding social security system, a level of material wellbeing above the EU average and sound public finances, Luxembourg is currently one of the most politically stable and prosperous countries in the world. Its strong fiscal position is well illustrated by a longstanding AAA credit rating, a significant accumulation of government financial assets, and a balanced, healthy fiscal position. In breast cancer treatment, surgery is one of the most common practices [DeSantis et al., 2019]. The surgery involves a complex pipeline, principally due to the difference between the imaging and the surgical posture [Mazier et al., 2021]. Indeed, because of the stance difference, the surgeon has to rely on radioactive or invasive markers to predict the tumor position in the surgical setup. Biomechanical simulations could predict such complex tumor displacements but often require patient-specific data (material properties, organs geometries, or loading and boundary conditions). Full-field acquisitions coupled with landmark identifications allow obtaining relative deformation between the different configurations. Having this information and assuming a finite element model, an identification procedure of the model parameters can be carried out. Finally, finding a suitable computational model allowing for a compromise between accuracy and speed, one may consider surrogate models for real-time simulations (20 to 50 FPS). In this work, we obtained the patient-specific geometry through micro-computed tomography in 8 different configurations, including 15 bio-markers. Assessing the displacement of the bio-markers enabled us to infer the relative strains between the different configurations. A heterogeneous neo-Hookean model was assumed for simulating soft tissue behavior. Based on the displacements and the position of the biomarkers, model parameters identification was performed to calibrate the experimental data with the finite element method results. To overcome speed performance issues, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) trained with a synthetic simulation-based dataset generated by applying different gravity directions is used. Preliminary results show that CNN can predict the displacement of anatomical landmarks to millimetric precision and is 100 times faster than the finite element method, satisfying our real-time objective. Plus, the use of Bayesian inferences involves a longer prediction time but allows a 95% confidence interval of the biomarkers' displacements. For a given precision, contrary to CNNs, optimization methods are computationally expensive and depend on an initialization point. Although CNNs require new training for each patient, optimization algorithms can be applied regardless of the patient's geometry. Through this study, we observed that material properties were playing an essential role but not as much as the anatomical structures e.g. infra-mammary or Copper’s ligaments. [less ▲]

CubeSats are being deployed for a number of activities including Earth observation, telecommunications, scientific experiments, and due to their low cost and flexibility, more often than not, they are even being considered for use in On-Orbit Servicing (OOS) and debris removal missions. This investigation focuses on using the CubeSat technology to perform autonomous proximity operations with passive target bodies including satellites or space debris. The nonlinear coupled attitude and orbit dynamics for the chaser and the target bodies are modelled and simulated. A nonlinear optimal controller identifies an appropriate rendezvous path. A vision-based navigation system on the chaser satellite records the pose of the target body. The pose observations with stochastic uncertainties are processed using a Kalman filter, and offer state feedback along the satellite path. Such observations in conjunction with the postulated linear control algorithm anchor the chaser to approach the target by maintaining appropriate relative configuration. The linear controller delivers regular maneuvers to compensate for any deviations from the identified reference path. A close-range rendezvous operation is illustrated in a Mission Design Simulator (MDS) tool. [less ▲]

Critical perspectives of entrepreneurship have gained increasing traction over the last two decades. The transformative potential of critical research resides in challenging some of entrepreneurship research’s epistemological, ontological and theoretical assumptions, with a view to offering a range of alternatives. Critical research in entrepreneurship has remained fragmented, however, due to its heterogeneous theoretical lineages and compartmentalized and niche interests. Addressing this situation, our objective is to intensify the space of critique in entrepreneurship research by offering a theoretically-informed typology that delineates different manifestations of ‘criticalness’. Our overarching contribution is to advance a typology distinguishing four ideal-types of critical entrepreneurship research based on its evaluative emphases (referred to as ‘valence’) and the meta-theoretical assumptions informing its critical operation (called ‘paradigmatic orientation’). By demonstrating the variegated political, ethical and ideological interests and preoccupations that critical studies serve within different management sub-disciplines, the typology provides a conceptual vocabulary for making sense of and synthesizing critical perspectives across scholarly boundaries. Also, it helps to reposition understandings of critique as gestures of negativity by stimulating a greater appreciation of the generative potential of critique and the theoretical and philosophical possibilities that this can bring to our scholarly community. Knowledge-based societies rely to a large extent on intangible assets and digital technologies, and these are having an increasing impact on information systems, power, governance and citizenship, driven by a proliferation of stakeholders and networks at multiple levels (states, international organisations, private companies, civil society and citizens. There is a clear need for international regulation in this area. This paper takes a multidisciplinary approach, combining an examination of theoretical, conceptual and methodological frameworks with an analysis of relevant public and private archives, with a threefold objective: 1) to outline issues and challenges in terms of human rights, freedom and democracy; 2) to identify the regulatory provisions adopted at European and international level to promote accountability, civic engagement and digital literacy through new forms of (mediated) democracy; and 3) to identify future prospects, risks and uncertainties in the era of artificial intelligence. In the Euclidean case, it is well-known, by Malgrange and Ehrenpreis, that linear differential operators with constant coefficients are solvable. However, what happens, if we genuinely extend this situation and consider systems of linear invariant differential operators, is still solvable? In case of Rn (for some positive integer n), the question has been proved mainly by Hörmander. We will show that this remains still true for Riemannian symmetric spaces of non-compact type X = G/K. More precisely, we will present a possible strategy to solve this problem by using the Fourier trans- form and its Paley-Wiener(-Schwartz) theorem for (distributional) sections of vector bundles over X. We will get complete solvability for the hyperbolic plane H2 = SL(2, R)/SO(2) and beyond. This work was part of my doctoral dissertation supervised by Martin Olbrich. [less ▲]

A population of photosynthetic algae has been shown to exhibit a highly nonlinear response to light, forming dynamic structures in light-intensity gradients. Two longstanding questions about this light response regard how light-seeking cells move in a light-intensity gradient and whether this motion depends on cell concentration. Aina Ramamonjy and colleagues investigated the dynamics of dilute and semi dilute suspensions of these algae in a light-intensity gradient (varying from darkness to bright green light). The results could improve our understanding of how groups of photosynthetic organisms arrange themselves into dynamic patterns to control the amount of light that they receive. [less ▲]
