The Greater Region (GR) is Europe’s cross-border region including Lorraine, Luxembourg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Wallonia. These regions share a consortium founded by five Univer sities. In the GR, emergency initial training for polytrauma patients’ management is heterogeneous. Moreover, learners encounter diffi culties in acquiring knowledge and skills on trauma due to case limi tations. This lack of experience can lead to adverse events and care errors. Lastly, WHO requests that states of the European Union intro duce training in prehospital trauma care. Consequently, the five uni versities are designing a common competency framework to define technical and non-technical skills needed to manage polytrauma patients. Methods: To design this competency framework, several steps have been planned: 1) a literature review on Medline Databases and CINAHL using key words related to training and polytrauma manage ment, and consultation of reference books; 2) a first proposal of com mon frame; 3) face-to-face and experts’ meetings; and 4) a Delphimethod to finalise and validate the framework. The first two havealready been carried out. Results: The literature review allowed selecting two books and 23 arti cles. The first proposal of competency framework is divided into three parts. The first part presents prerequisite knowledge and skills of the emergency physicians. The second part describes the rational of the frame, and essential concepts as the Golden hour6 and a timeline forolytrauma patients’ management. The last part describes seven med ical skills using CanMEDS system presented in two sections: five Non Technical Skills (Professional attitude, Long-life learning, Communicator,Collaborator and Leader), and several Technical Skills to use during Pre hospital phase and In-hospital phase. Conclusions: Designing a common framework for polytrauma pa tients’ management in the GR is the first step of an Interreg project. Based on CanMEDS system, seven skills have been defined. A Delphi method will validate this proposal. [less ▲]

Nowadays, recommender system is an indispensable tool in many information services, and a large number of algorithms have been designed and implemented. However, fed with very large datasets, state-of-the-art recommendation algorithms often face an efficiency bottleneck, i.e., it takes huge amount of computing resources to train a recommendation model. In order to satisfy the needs of privacy-savvy users who do not want to disclose their information to the service provider, the complexity of most existing solutions becomes prohibitive. As such, it is an interesting research question to design simple and efficient recommendation algorithms that achieve reasonable accuracy and facilitate privacy protection at the same time. In this paper, we propose an efficient recommendation algorithm, named CryptoRec, which has two nice properties: (1) can estimate a new user's preferences by directly using a model pre-learned from an expert dataset, and the new user's data is not required to train the model; (2) can compute recommendations with only addition and multiplication operations. As to the evaluation, we first test the recommendation accuracy on three real-world datasets and show that CryptoRec is competitive with state-of-the-art recommenders. Then, we evaluate the performance of the privacy-preserving variants of CryptoRec and show that predictions can be computed in seconds on a PC. In contrast, existing solutions will need tens or hundreds of hours on more powerful computers. [less ▲]

Para-Platforms investigates the social, spatial, and material reality of right-wing populism. Three case studies—presented in a symposium organized by Markus Miessen at the Gothenburg Design Festival in November 2017—form the core of this collection of essays: journalist Hannes Grassegger on Trump and Brexit; architectural theorist Stephan Trüby on spaces of right-wing extremism in Germany; and Christina Varvia on Forensic Architecture’s investigation of the murder of Halit Yozgat, a young German man of Turkish descent, at the hands of a far-right group in 2006. The presentations are reproduced along with the ensuing conversations with Miessen and the audience members. An essay by design scholar Mahmoud Keshavarz opening the book discusses the capacity of design to create conditions for certain politics to occur. Among the other theoretical, artistic, and historical contributions in the reader, editor Zoë Ritts interviews artist Wolfgang Tillmans regarding his pro-EU poster series, the ongoing project truth study centre, and guest-edited volume What Is Different? The volume concludes with a comic by artist Liam Gillick animating a block of granite—culled from the Swedish quarry responsible for extracting the red granite intended for the Third Reich’s architectural ambitions—as the messiah of spatial and material politics. In The Language of Secret Proof, Nina Valerie Kolowratnik challenges the conditions under which Indigenous rights to protect and regain traditional lands are currently negotiated in United States legal frameworks. The tenth volume in the Critical Spatial Practice series responds to the urgent need for alternative modes of evidentiary production by introducing an innovative system of architectural drawing and notation. Today, most Western legal forums utilized by Indigenous communities for recognition of their rights continue to employ evidentiary rules that do not allow for Native truths to be accepted as “reliable” evidence. When tribes are asked to provide proof of their traditional connection to the land, what Western legal forums accept as documentation does not truly represent or respect tribal culture and traditional formats of knowledge transfer. Kolowratnik’s research focuses on the double bind Pueblo communities in the American Southwest are confronted with when they become involved in a legal effort to reclaim and protect ancestral lands, since the process of producing evidence runs counter to their structural organization around oral history and cultural secrecy. The spatial notational systems developed by Kolowratnik with the support of Hemish people, members of Jemez Pueblo in northern New Mexico, and presented in this volume are an attempt to produce evidentiary documentation that speaks Native truths while respecting demands on secrecy. These systems also attempt to instigate a dialogue where there currently is none, deconstructing the fixed opposition between secrecy and disclosure within Western legal systems. [less ▲]
