Background: Adolescents spend an increasing amount of time communicating online. Previous research has indicated that electronic media communication has been associated with positive outcomes on adolescent well-being and development, however, problematic social media use is on the rise. This study investigates factors that influence problematic social media use (PSMU), based on previous empirical research and the Differential Susceptibility to Media Effects Model by Valkenburg and Peter (2013). Methods: The data used in this study stems from the 2018 Health Behaviour for School-aged Children (HBSC) study in Luxembourg. Data from elementary and secondary school students aged 11 to 18 was used (N = 6164), which was collected through a written survey. A four-stage hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted using SPSS, with problematic social media use as the dependent variable. 14 independent variables were included in the model, added in four blocks: sociodemographic factors, social support factors, well-being factors and media use factors.Results: The results indicate that in stage one of the hierarchical regression, the sociodemographic predictors accounted for 3% of the variation in problematic social media use. The addition of the social support factors to the model in stage two explained an additional 7% of the variation in problematic social media use, and the addition of the well-being factors in stage three an additional 5.3%. In stage four of the hierarchical regression media use factors were added to the model, and the four blocks of predictors accounted for 22.2% of the variation in problematic social media use (Adjusted R2 = 0.222). The most important predictors for problematic social media use were preference for online social interaction (β = 0.205, p < .001), the intensity of electronic media communication (β = 0.155, p < .001), psychosomatic complaints (β = 0.136, p < .001), perceived stress (β = 0.122, p < .001) and cyberbullying perpetration (β = 0.117, p < .001). Conclusions: The block of sociodemographic factors contributed minimally to the explanation of the variance in problematic social media use in the model. The most important predictors for problematic social media use were preference for online social interaction, the intensity of electronic media communication, psychosomatic complaints, perceived stress and cyberbullying perpetration. This suggests that there are several starting points for the prevention of problematic social media use among adolescents. [less ▲]

A large body of the literature of automated program repair develops approaches where patches are generated to be validated against an oracle (e.g., a test suite). Because such an oracle can be imperfect, the generated patches, although validated by the oracle, may actually be incorrect. While the state of the art explore research directions that require dynamic information or rely on manually-crafted heuristics, we study the benefit of learning code representations to learn deep features that may encode the properties of patch correctness. Our work mainly investigates different representation learning approaches for code changes to derive embeddings that are amenable to similarity computations. We report on findings based on embeddings produced by pre-trained and re-trained neural networks. Mesoporous TiO2 films with enhanced photocatalytic activity in both UV and visible wavelength ranges were developed through a non-conventional atomic layer deposition (ALD) process at room temperature. Deposition at such a low temperature promotes the accumulation of by-products in the amorphous TiO2 films, caused by the incomplete hydrolysis of the TiCl4 precursor. The additional thermal annealing induces the fast recrystallisation of amorphous films, as well as an in situ acidic treatment of TiO2. The interplay between the deposition parameters, such as purge time, the amount of structural defects introduced and the enhancement of the photocatalytic properties from different mesoporous films clearly shows that our easily upscalable non-conventional ALD process is of great industrial interest for environmental remediation and other photocatalytic applications, such as hydrogen production. Ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLCs) couple the direction of their spontaneous electric polarization to the direction of tilt of their optic axis. Consequently, reversal of the electric polarization by an electric field gives rise to an immediate and lasting optical response when an appropriately aligned FLC is observed between crossed polarizers, with one field direction yielding a dark image and the opposite direction yielding a bright image. Here, this peculiar electro-optic response is used to image, with high optical contrast, 180 degrees ferroelectric domains in a crystalline substrate of magnesium-doped lithium niobate. The lithium niobate substrate contains a few domains with upward electric polarization surrounded by regions with downward electric polarization. In contrast to a reference non-chiral liquid crystal that is unable to show ferroelectric behavior due to its high symmetry, the FLC, which is used as a thin film confined between the lithium niobate substrate and an inert aligning substrate, reveals ferroelectric domains as well as their boundaries, with strong black and white contrast. The results show that FLCs can be used for non-destructive readout of domains in underlying ferroelectrics, with potential applications in, e.g., photonic devices and non-volatile ferroelectric memories. Le présent rapport trace les principaux développements et débats relatifs à la migration et à l'asile au Luxembourg en 2019. Le Luxembourg reste un pays d'immigration important, comme en témoignent les chiffres du solde migratoire, qui reste la principale raison de la croissance démographique de la population résidente luxembourgeoise. L'immigration nette de ressortissants de pays tiers reste élevée (7 336) et dépasse celle des citoyens de l'Union européenne (UE; 4 806). Le nombre de personnes demandant une protection internationale est resté élevé en 2019 (2 047 demandes) par rapport aux niveaux enregistrés avant la «crise migratoire» (1 091 en 2014). Le regroupement familial reste la principale raison pour laquelle les ressortissants de pays tiers immigrent au Luxembourg, suivi des raisons économiques et de la protection internationale. Plusieurs développements majeurs se sont produits dans le domaine de la migration légale. L'introduction d'un nouveau visa de longue durée simplifie l'entrée et le séjour des ressortissants de pays tiers pour une période pouvant aller jusqu'à un an, sans avoir à demander un permis de séjour. Afin de garantir les droits des citoyens britanniques travaillant et résidant au Luxembourg avant le retrait du Royaume-Uni (UK) de l'UE (Brexit), quatre lois ont été adoptées, la plupart d'entre elles étant censées entrer en vigueur en cas d’un Brexit sans accord. D'autres changements importants liés à la migration résultent de l'adoption de la loi du 4 décembre 2019 modifiant la loi du 29 août 2009 sur la libre circulation des personnes et l'immigration. The background of the freezing-of-gait (FOG) phenomenon in Parkinson's syndrome is presented in this review. The following issues are addressed: characterization of the symptom freezing and its subtypes that challenge standardized diagnostic procedures; available assessment methods generating freezing-related parameters that not only support clinical studies but can also be applied in everyday care, and current therapy options. FOG exists in different subtypes, and clinical and diagnostic definitions are limited by subjective characterization and semi-standardized tests. FOG-specific drug options are not existing, apart from the optimization of dopaminergic medication, which may also be due to the poor discriminatory power of standardized diagnostics. This is also true for deep brain stimulation. Both of these therapeutic options may be due not only to the complex neural network alterations as a motor-control correlate of FOG, but also because of challenging diagnostic assessments methodologies. Innovative, wearable, sensor-based diagnostic strategies are currently being developed, and supportive therapies using tools and technologies focusing on 'cueing' are becoming increasingly well accepted. Even though high level evidence is missing, they provide a helpful treatment option for individualized therapy. It can be assumed that these options will become particularly popular due to technological progress and likely alter the everyday treatment challenges faced by doctors and therapists. [less ▲]

Sepulchral practices may add other toxic substances. This article examines how the recent trend towards woodland burials of cremated remains in Luxembourg is embedded in ecological discourse and imagination, and asks whether it does provide an environment-friendly alternative to traditional full-body inhumations.
