Smart contracts have recently attracted interest from diverse fields including law and finance. Ethereum in particular has grown rapidly to accommodate an entire ecosystem of contracts which run using its own crypto-currency. Smart contract developers can opt to verify their contracts so that any user can inspect and audit the code before executing the contract. However, the huge numbers of deployed smart contracts and the lack of supporting tools for the analysis of smart contracts makes it very challenging to get insights into this eco-environment, where code gets executed through transactions performing value transfer of a crypto-currency. We address this problem and report on the use of unsupervised clustering techniques and a seed set of verified contracts, in this work we propose a framework to group together similar contracts within the Ethereum network using only the contracts publicly available compiled code. We report qualitative and quantitative results on a dataset and provide the dataset and project code to the research community. [less ▲]

Bitcoin is currently the most popular digital currency. It operates on a decentralised peer-to-peer network using an open source cryptographic protocol. In this work, we create a model of the selection process performed by mining pools on the set of unconfirmed transactions and then attempt to predict if an unconfirmed transaction will be part of the next block by treating it as a supervised classification problem. We identified a vector of features obtained through service monitoring of the Bitcoin transaction network and performed our experiments on a publicly available dataset of Bitcoin transaction. This article examines the role that translation may have played in the development of medieval vernacular literature. It analyses an extract of an early 13th-c. translation into a hybrid French-Occitan vernacular of an 8th-c. historical text, the 'Liber Historiae Francorum'. The translation coincides with the adoption of narrative prose both in Old French and in Occitan literature, which reflects a growing interest in historical writings. The second half of the article compares the anecdote with the narrative structures and content of one of the troubadour 'vidas' and 'razos' - biographical texts in prose that emerged in the same period and regions as this translation. The article concludes by suggesting that the new vernacular genre shares narrative features with the early medieval Latin text that are preserved in its translation. [less ▲]

As contagious bio-aerosols continue to impact our society, we examine how the morphological traits of large-scale (15 cm x 93 cm), uniformly thick, electrospun Nylon membranes can contribute to the development of diagnostic, sensor driven face masks for capturing exhaled breath content. In our study, we compare the capture efficiencies of three types of large-scale Nylon-6 nanofiber membranes against those of commercial control textiles for capturing in-lab simulated salt breath aerosols. One of the electrospun membranes was also surface functionalized via grafting technique. The fabrication, functionalization, and exhaled aerosol capture of these large-scale membranes underscores the importance of assessing the lifetime, and usability, of electrospun materials before future integration with diagnostic sensing platforms can be successfully achieved. Working memory capacity (WMC) and reasoning abilities—as assessed by figural matrices tests—are substantially correlated. It is controversially discussed whether this correlation is only caused by controlled attention or also by storage capacity. This study aims at investigating storage of partial solutions as a possible mechanism by which storage capacity may contribute to solving figural matrices tests. For this purpose, we analyzed how an experimental manipulation of storage demands changes the pattern of correlations between WMC and performance in a matrix task. We manipulated the storage demands by applying two test formats: one providing the externalization of partial solutions and one without the possibility of externalization. Storage capacity was assessed by different types of change detection tasks. We found substantial correlations between storage capacity and matrices test performance, but they were of comparable size for both test formats. We take this as evidence that the necessity to store partial solutions is not the limiting factor which causes the association between storage capacity and matrices test. It is discussed how this approach can be used to investigate alternative mechanisms by that storage may influence performance in matrices tests. [less ▲]

In response to the tender specifications the study consists of two parts. The first examines whether divergences in national procedural laws and practices constitute obstacles to mutual trust and, in the affirmative, identifies the locus and the scale of such obstacles; it thereby facilitates the identification of the areas in which mutual trust needs to be further enhanced in line with the European Council Conclusions of 26/27 June 2014. In addition, the study addresses possible obstacles to legal certainty when businesses and citizens engage in cross-border litigation. The second strand of the study evaluates whether and to what extent national procedural laws and practices ensure the effective procedural protection of EU consumers. Both strands of the study investigate the legal and the practical situations in the civil procedural laws of the 28 EU Member States. [less ▲]

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate research trends observed in the International Journal of Integrated Supply Management (IJISM) during its first 10 volumes, which extend over a total of 175 research papers published between 2004 and 2016. The work at hand first develops a conceptual framework for classifying papers that appeared in IJISM. Papers are then assigned to the framework to identify popular research topics and research methodologies used, and to highlight publication patterns that could be observed in the first 10 volumes of the journal. The paper concludes with an outlook on possible perspectives for the journal. [less ▲]
