1) General information on the ORBilu digital repository

What does the abbreviation ORBilu mean?

At the end of 2012, the Rectorate of the University of Luxembourg decided to create a digital repository of all UL publications as well as establish an institutional policy deposit so as to increase their visibility, accessibility and impact.

ORBilu is the name given to the repository. It means "Open Repository and Bibliography - Luxembourg" and is subdivided into two sections:

ORBilu’s objectives are therefore two-fold:

What is a digital repository?

A digital repository (or index) is intended to bring together the full text documents of an institution’s entire scientific production and make it freely accessible over the internet so as to enhance its visibility and impact. It offers a package of services by which digital documents can be recorded, conserved and disseminated. Researchers can use it themselves to archive their own works (self-archiving).

What can you find in ORBilu?

ORBilu contains the references to publications produced by members of the University of Luxembourg since at least 2009. Researchers must deposit a full-text electronic version of all their peer-reviewed articles and conference proceedings published since 2009. In addition, authors are entirely free to deposit references, full text or additional documents (raw data, videos, etc.) relative to any types of works published prior to 2009.

As well, authors may deposit references to their works published before they took up their post at the University of Luxembourg. In that case, the affiliation-related information has to be altered accordingly. These references will form part of the author’s personal bibliography but not of the university bibliography. Users of ORBilu can nonetheless see them if they indicate that they want to see the references of UL authors including those produced outside the context of the university.
