Les principaux objectifs de l’enquête étaient de mesurer les taux de prévalence des délits de droit commun et de sonder les comportements relatifs à la délinquance et la sécurité. [more ▼] In her examination of neglected diaristic texts, Anne-Marie Millim expands the field of Victorian diary criticism by complicating the conventional notion of diaries as mainly private sources of biographical information. She argues that for Elizabeth Rigby Eastlake, Henry Crabb Robinson, George Eliot, George Gissing, John Ruskin, Edith Simcox and Gerard Manley Hopkins, the exposure or publication of their diaries was a real possibility that they either coveted or feared. Millim locates the diary at the intersection of the public and private spheres to show that well-known writers and public figures of both sexes exploited the diary's self-reflexive, diurnal structure in order to enhance their creativity and establish themselves as authors. Their object was to manage, rather than to indulge or repress, their emotions for the purposes of perfecting their observational and critical skills. Reading these diaries as literary works in their own right, Millim analyses their crucial role in the construction of authorship. By relating these Victorian writers' diaries to their publications and to contemporary works of cultural criticism, Millim shows the multifarious ways in which diaristic practices, emotional management and professional output corresponded to experiences of the literary marketplace and to nineteenth-century codes of propriety. [more ▼] By presenting a range of diaristic texts composed by canonical Victorian writers, this article illustrates the variety of forms that Victorian diaries take and shows the ways in which these documents can adopt the status of a public and a private text simultaneously. It explains the repercussions of the critical assessments of the diary genre by New Criticism and feminism, which have privileged aesthetically meritorious diaries and those of women, respectively, for the field of Victorian diary criticism. It argues that the more inclusive approach of Philippe Lejeune represents a useful alternative to interpretative strategies that are exclusively preoccupied with the literary form of a diary or the gender of its author. Many diary scholars have been influenced by Lejeune’s work because it highlights the heteroglossic diversity that is characteristic of Victorian diaries, which, in turn, allows for a clearer understanding of the subjective experience of Victorian individuals and the ways in which they negotiated their value within the cultural context of the nineteenth century. [more ▼] This article examines the role that translation may have played in the development of medieval vernacular literature. It analyses an extract of an early 13th-c. translation into a hybrid French-Occitan vernacular of an 8th-c. historical text, the 'Liber Historiae Francorum'. The translation coincides with the adoption of narrative prose both in Old French and in Occitan literature, which reflects a growing interest in historical writings. The second half of the article compares the anecdote with the narrative structures and content of one of the troubadour 'vidas' and 'razos' - biographical texts in prose that emerged in the same period and regions as this translation. The article concludes by suggesting that the new vernacular genre shares narrative features with the early medieval Latin text that are preserved in its translation. [more ▼] The course will introduce to the new methods of VHA (Video History Analysis) applied on the Jewish society in Luxembourg. Students will learn how to use the new methods of using archival sources in digital era. During the individual sessions, participants will use the intuitive video editing software on the online IWitness platform, which allow to edit and create their own video recordings. The course also provides an overview of using and editing historical photos, maps and personal documents as archival source. Students will be divided in two working groups and each group will work on different locations, e.g. Group A will be in charge of designing a virtual tour in Luxembourg city and eventually it will be up to them which interesting places they select on and how many stops they include. Group B will create alike in the city of Esch-sur-Alzette. Participants will capture on camera current appearance of buildings and locations associated with Jewish heritage for later comparisons with original photos. The training’s second part offers skills about making a video interview with contemporary Luxembourgish Jewish narrators. Students will learn how to create a short but comprehensive interview right in the streets where they will ask potential Jewish narrators about their memories of specific locations associated with the Luxembourgish Jewish community. They will also learn to compare their work with professional interviews conducted with various interviewees from different Jewish generations. After the training, the participants will collect, edit and upload relevant materials that result in the practical output in the form of the interactive online tour within the phone application (IWalk). [more ▼] PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The notion that play may facilitate learning has long been touted. Here, we review how video game play may be leveraged for enhancing attentional control, allowing greater cognitive flexibility and learning and in turn new routes to better address developmental disorders. RECENT FINDINGS: Video games, initially developed for entertainment, appear to enhance the behavior in domains as varied as perception, attention, task switching, or mental rotation. This surprisingly wide transfer may be mediated by enhanced attentional control, allowing increased signal-to-noise ratio and thus more informed decisions. SUMMARY: The possibility of enhancing attentional control through targeted interventions, be it computerized training or self-regulation techniques, is now well established. Embedding such training in video game play is appealing, given the astounding amount of time spent by children and adults worldwide with this media. It holds the promise of increasing compliance in patients and motivation in school children, and of enhancing the use of positive impact games. Yet for all the promises, existing research indicates that not all games are created equal: a better understanding of the game play elements that foster attention and learning as well as of the strategies developed by the players is needed. Computational models from machine learning or developmental robotics provide a rich theoretical framework to develop this work further and address its impact on developmental disorders. [more ▼] In this paper, we explore the concept of providing feedback to a user moving in front of a depth camera so that he is able to replicate a specific template action. This can be used as a home based rehabilitation system for stroke survivors, where the objective is for patients to practice and improve their daily life activities. Patients are guided in how to correctly perform an action by following feedback proposals. These proposals are presented in a human interpretable way. In order to align an action that was performed with the template action, we explore two different approaches, namely, Subsequence Dynamic Time Warping and Temporal Commonality Discovery. The first method aims to find the temporal alignment and the second one discovers the interval of the subsequence that shares similar content, after which standard Dynamic Time Warping can be used for the temporal alignment. Then, feedback proposals can be provided in order to correct the user with respect to the template action. Experimental results show that both methods have similar accuracy rate and the computational time is a decisive factor, where Subsequence Dynamic Time Warping achieves faster results.
