[more ▼] Integer lattices enjoy increasing interest among mathematicians and cryptographers. However, there are still many elementary open questions, like finding specific vectors or particular bases of a given lattice. Our study consists in exhibiting which integer vectors may be chosen as basis vectors of a chosen lattice. The compelling part of our development is that this condition is obtained through an unusual application of Dirichlet's Theorem on primes in arithmetic progressions and that it has a surprising consequence for vectors achieving the successive minima. [more ▼] With this article we want to illustrate how the central publications of the European Union legitimate a role of Career Guidance Services (CGS) that help in establishing a desired form of social order. Using the Sociology of Knowledge Approach to Discourse, we reconstructed four typical metaphorical conceptualisations of CGS that go along with desirable and taken-for-granted subject positions. The results reveal the assigned active role of CGS in establishing a specific vision of and in transforming the European society. We conclude by outlining the ways in which critique is expressed within the discourse and by highlighting the inherent ambivalences of these practices of critique. [more ▼] In a type of interactions over the Internet, a user (the subject) is dependent on another user (the target), but not vice versa. The subject should therefore form an opinion about the target, before possibly initiating an interaction. The scenario wherein a subject only relies on information obtained from past interactions with the target, is well-studied and understood. In this paper, we formally analyze the implication of allowing recommendations (statements of a third party) as source of information. We identify the family of valid models that admit recommendations. This allows us to verify particular existing models that admit recommendations. [more ▼] In several theoretical essays, dialogues on collaborative projects and reflections on his own work, the architect Nikolaus Hirsch explores the critical transformations of contemporary space and its effects on spatial practice. On the threshold to disciplines such as visual and performative arts (“Planning the Unpredictable” with William Forsythe) he questions the notion of “boundary”: as a phenomenon of social and political discourse, as a conflict between collaboration and authorship, as well as a physical limitation that negotiates between stable and unstable conditions. Nikolaus Hirsch is a Frankfurt-based architect, educator, and curator. He was the Dean of Städelschule and Director of Portikus Kunsthalle in Frankfurt am Main. His architectural work includes the award-winning Dresden Synagogue (2001), Bockenheimer Depot Theater (with William Forsythe), Cybermohalla Hub (Delhi, 2012), and “Do We Dream Under The Same Sky” (Art Basel, 2015/LUMA Arles, 2017). Hirsch has curated „ErsatzStadt“ at Volksbühne Berlin (2005), numerous exhibitions at the Portikus, the Folly project for the Gwangju Biennale (2013), “Wohnungsfrage” at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin (2015), and the German Pavilion at the Architecture Biennale 2020 in Venice. He is the co-editor of Institution Building, Superhumanity, and the Critical Spatial Practice series from Sternberg Press, and co-founder of e-flux architecture. [more ▼] This paper explores the role played by product variety and quality in a real business cycle model. Firms are heterogeneous in terms of their speci c quality as well as pro- ductivity levels. Firms which have costly technology enter in a period of high aggregated demand and produce high quality goods. Thus, the average quality level and number of available varieties are procyclical, as in the data. The model can replicate the observed in flationary bias in the conventional Consumer Price Index due to a rise in the number of new product varieties and quality. [more ▼] Let p be a fixed prime number. It has been known for a long time that there are only finitely many Galois extensions K/Q with Galois group a finite irreducible subgroup of GL_2(F_p^bar) that are imaginary and unramified outside p. In contrast, there are infinitely many such with Galois group inside GL_2(Z_p^bar), even if one restricts to ones coming from modular forms (this restriction is believed to be local at p). It is tempting to ask what happens "in between" F_p^bar and Z_p^bar, i.e. whether there is still finiteness modulo fixed prime powers. In the talk, I will motivate and explain a conjecture made with Ian Kiming and Nadim Rustom stating that the set of such Galois extensions `modulo p^m' (a proper definition will be given in the talk) coming from modular forms is finite. I will present partial results and a relation of the finiteness conjecture to a strong question by Kevin Buzzard. The talk is based on joint work with Ian Kiming and Nadim Rustom. [more ▼] We investigate certain finiteness questions that arise naturally when studying approximations modulo prime powers of p-adic Galois representations coming from modular forms. We link these finiteness statements with a question by K. Buzzard concerning p-adic coefficient fields of Hecke eigenforms. Specifically, we conjecture that, for fixed N, m, and prime p with p not dividing N, there is only a finite number of reductions modulo p^m of normalized eigenforms on \Gamma_1(N). We consider various variants of our basic finiteness conjecture, prove a weak version of it, and give some numerical evidence. [more ▼] Explicitly including the dynamics of users' route choice behaviour in optimal traffic control applications has been of interest for researchers in the last five decades. This has been recognized as a very challenging problem, due to the added layer of complexity and the considerable non-convexity of the resulting problem, even when dealing with simple static assignment and analytical link cost functions. In this work we establish a direct behavioural connection between the different shapes and structures emerging in the solution space of such problems and the underlying route choice behaviour. We specifically investigate how changes in the active equilibrium route set exert direct influence on the solution space's structure and behaviour. Based on this result, we then formulate and validate a constrained version of the original problem, yielding desirable properties in terms of solution space regularity. © 2017 The Authors.
