This communication is part of a larger research project that aims to develop and test a model about the collaboration practices of female entrepreneurs, through identifying antecedents and consequences for entrepreneurial success. The objective of our communication is to explore collaborative entrepreneurship, an emerging topic in the literature, from the perspective of female entrepreneurs in Luxembourg. We share here the first insights brought by our exploratory study on this relatively underinvestigated topic, in particular in the women’s entrepreneurship field. Through the analysis of an in-depth longitudinal case study with two women entrepreneurs who created and developed a business collaboration, completed by a set of qualitative interviews with other women entrepreneurs working in collaboration, we are able to propose a first understanding of this phenomenon and to establish the bases for a theoretical model. Even though globalization has led to larger, faster, and more efficient supply chains, at the same time the new worldwide interconnection has also resulted in major challenges with respect to hidden systemic risks. In particular, there is a lack of a holistic perspective on the entire supply network. This missing global view prohibits the anamnesis and management of underlying risks. Against this backdrop, in this paper we discuss the potential contributions of Blockchain technology to systemic risk management in global supply chains and networks. Given the increasing number of recent initiatives of businesses in the context of Blockchain, we argue that Blockchain technology can lower the hurdle for the use of secure multiparty computation. Ultimately, it may be possible to implement a corresponding monitoring mechanism for systemic risks without (i) the need of a central authority and (ii) revealing competition relevant, confidential information to other supply network participants. A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at position 196 in the beta 3 integrin causes a Leu33Pro substitution in the mature protein. Alloimmunization against the beta 3Leu33 form (human platelet antigen [HPA]-1a, Pl(A1), Zw(a)) in patients who are beta 3Pro33 homozygous (HPA-1b1b, Pl(A2A2), Zw(bb)) causes neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia, posttransfusion purpura, or refractoriness to platelet transfusion. Studies with recombinant proteins have demonstrated that amino acids 1 to 66 and 288 to 490 of the beta 3 integrin contribute to HPA-1a epitope formation. In determining the HPA-1a status of more than 6000 donors, we identified a donor with an HPA-1a(weak) phenotype and an HPA-1a1b genotype. The platelets from this donor had normal levels of surface alpha IIb beta 3 but reacted only weakly with monoclonal and polyclonal anti-HPA-1a by whole blood enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), flow cytometry, and sandwich ELISA. We reasoned that an alteration in the primary nucleotide sequence of the beta 3Leu33 allele of this donor was disrupting the HPA-1a epitope. In agreement with this hypothesis, sequencing platelet RNA-derived alpha IIb and beta 3 cDNA identified a novel G/A SNP at position 376 of the beta 3 integrin that encodes for an Arg93Gln replacement in the beta 3Leu33 allele. Coexpression of the beta 3Leu33Gln93 encoding cDNA in Chinese hamster ovary cells with human alpha IIb cDNA showed that the surface-expressed alpha IIb beta 3 reacted normally with beta 3 integrin-specific monoclonal antibodies but only weakly with monoclonal anti-HPA-1a. Our results show that an Arg93Gln mutation in the beta 3Leu33 encoding allele disrupts the HPA-1a epitope, suggesting that Arg93 contributes to the formation of the HPA-1a B-cell epitope. [less ▲]

With a growing concern on the considerable energy consumed by HPC platforms and data centers, research efforts are targeting green approaches with higher energy efficiency. In particular, virtualization is emerging as the prominent approach to mutualize the energy consumed by a single server running multiple VMs instances. Even today, it remains unclear whether the overhead induced by virtualization and the corresponding hypervisor middleware suits an environment as high-demanding as an HPC platform. In this paper, we analyze from an HPC perspective the three most widespread virtualization frameworks, namely Xen, KVM, and VMware ESXi and compare them with a baseline environment running in native mode. We performed our experiments on the Grid’5000 platform by measuring the results of the reference HPL benchmark. Power measures were also performed in parallel to quantify the potential energy efficiency of the virtualized environments. In general, our study offers novel incentives toward in-house HPC platforms running without any virtualized frameworks. [less ▲]

HSSP (http://www.sander.embl-ebi.ac.uk/hssp/) is a derived database merging structure (3-D) and sequence (1-D) information, For each protein of known 3D structure from the Protein Data Bank (PDB), we provide a multiple sequence alignment of putative homologues and a sequence profile characteristic of the protein family, centered on the known structure. The list of homologues is the result of an iterative database search in SWISS-PROT using a position-weighted dynamic programming method for sequence profile alignment (MaxHom). The database is updated frequently, The listed putative homologues are very likely to have the same 3D structure as the PDB protein to which they have been aligned. As a result, the database not only provides aligned sequence families, but also implies secondary and tertiary structures covering 33% of all sequences in SWISS-PROT. [less ▲]

In this paper, we suggest a scheme for error identification in human skills transfer when using the Programming by Demonstration (PbD) in adding a set of skills from a human operator to the force- controlled robotic tasks. Such errors in human skills transfer is majorly caused from the difficulty of properly synchronizing the human and machine responses. Based on the captured Cartesian forces and torques signals of the manipulated object, we present an approach of identifying the errors stemmed from human wrong skills transfer in a PbD process. The scheme is composed of using the Gravitational Search- Fuzzy Clustering Algorithm (GS-FSA) in finding the centroid of the captured forces and torques signals for each Contact Formation (CF). Then using a distance- based outlier identification approach along with the centroid of each signal, the human errors can be identified in the framework of data outlier identification. In order to validate the approach, a test stand, composed of a KUKA Light Weight Robot manipulating a rigid cube object, is built. The manipulated object is assumed to interact with an environment composed of three orthogonal planes. Error identification for two case studies will be considered and other cases can be dealt with in a similar manner. From the experimental results, excellent human error identification is shown when using the suggested approach. [less ▲]
