This study of 365 second and fourth graders examines the differences in physical self-concept (PSK), individually preferred reference norm orientation (BNO), and goal orientation in respect to age, gender, and sports club membership, as well as the relationship between these constructs. With regard to PSK, significant age differences are confirmed in ANOVAs in favor of the second graders in general athleticism, as well as gender differences in favor of the young on almost all subscales. Boys often prefer an individual BNO and second graders get higher scores in goal orientation. Sports club members have a more positive PSK and show lower levels of avoidance performance goal orientation and work avoidance. PSK scales were positively correlated with individual BNO (.08 ≤ r ≤ .25), learning goal orientation (.09 ≤ r ≤ .34), and grades in sports (.16 ≤ r ≤ .51) and they were negatively correlated with social BNO (−.26 ≤ r ≤ −.05).
