From 2002 to 2006, we took part to an the European program Periscop. The aim of this study is to develop a method to analyze work experience in order to foster professional mobility. It begins with the observation that the measures for assisting professional mobility (i.e., skills assessment, job training) are usually based on tasks to perform, and rarely on work contexts and conditions for carrying out those tasks, even though the latter two do require real learning and set the conditions for work activity to be carried out efficiently. The hypothesis being proposed is that in order to understand how transfer of experience occurs it is essential to be aware of the elements of the work context as well as of the tasks and work activities in which the person is experienced, in order to develop hypotheses about career development.
