[more ▼] The D33 small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) instrument at the Institut Laue–Langevin (ILL) is the most recent SANS instrument to be built at the ILL. In a project beginning in 2005 and lasting seven years, the concept has been developed, and the instrument designed, manufactured and installed. D33 was commissioned with neutrons during the second half of 2012, fully entering the ILL user programme in 2013. The scientific case required that D33 should provide a wide dynamic range of measured scattering vector magnitude q, flexibility with regard to the instrument resolution, and the provision of polarized neutrons and 3He spin analysis to facilitate and expand studies in magnetism. In monochromatic mode, a velocity selector and a flexible system of inter-collimation apertures define the neutron beam. A double-chopper system enables a time-of-flight (TOF) mode of operation, allowing an enhanced dynamic q range (qmax/qmin) and a flexible wavelength resolution. Two large multitube detectors extend the dynamic q range further, giving qmax/qmin ’ 25 in monochromatic mode and a very large qmax/qmin > 1000 in TOF mode. The sample zone is large and flexible in configuration, accommodating complex and bulky sample environments, while the position of D33 is such as to allow high magnetic fields at the sample position. The instrument is of general purpose with a performance rivalling that of D22, and is well adapted for SANS studies in scientific disciplines as diverse as solution scattering in biology and soft matter and studies of physics, materials science and magnetism. This article provides a detailed technical description of D33 and its performance and characterization of the individual components, and serves as a technical reference for users of the instrument. These difficult behaviors from the child can put parents of these children at a greater risk of increased mental health problems than parents of TD children (Totsika et al., 2011). The use of specific emotion regulation strategies can be a strong protective factor against adverse life events (Troy & Mauss, 2011). Additionally, how parents perceive their children’s emotional difficulties is related to their own well-being (Davis & Carter, 2008). The current study analyses how parents’ emotion dysregulation (e.g. lack of adaptive regulatory strategies) and parents’ perceptions of their children’s emotion dysregulation (e.g. negative reactivity, easily frustrated, presence of disruptive behaviors) contribute to parents’ depressive symptomatology. 37 parents of children with ASD and 41 parents of TD children completed questionnaires regarding their depressive symptomatology, their emotion dysregulation, and their perception of their children’s emotion dysregulation. Parents of children with ASD, compared to parents of TD children, reported more depressive symptomatology and more emotion dysregulation in themselves and in their children. Regression analyses revealed that parents’ own emotion dysregulation and their perception of their children’s emotion dysregulation contributed to their depressive symptomatology above and beyond ASD diagnosis. Furthermore, mediation analysis revealed that parents’ emotion dysregulation mediates the relation between ASD diagnosis and parents’ depressive symptomatology. These results may have implications for the prevention and development of interventions on the well-being and mental health of parents of children with ASD. Illness perceptions (IP) are the beliefs, cognitions, representations of a disease, impacting PLHIV coping strategies and QOL. Tenacious goal pursuit (TGP) is the pursuit of goals with determination, flexible goal adjustment (FGA) is doing it with flexibility, disengaging if necessary, they can both be considered as coping strategies. This study aims to measure the impact of HIV Perception in the QOL of PLHIV mediated by the TGP and FGA. Data was collected from 196 PLHIV with the WHOQOL-HIV Bref, the Brief-IPQ and the FGA and TGP scales. Structural equation model provided a good fit consistent with the theoretical SRM. IP, TGP and FGA had direct effects on the QOL of PLHIV. IP had also an indirect effect (partially mediated by TGP/FGA), suggesting that TGP/FGA reduce the impact of a threatening IP in the QOL. Migration as the movement of social and national groups within as well as into Europe includes several motivations and objectives. Depending on these motivations, migrants are considered as welcome asset or as not-wanted claiming benefits of the national social security systems. What can we learn from earlier migration waves? Currently, a large number of first-generation immigrants of the big immigration waves of the 1960s and 1970s are approaching retirement age in many European countries. Contrary to earlier expectations, studies have shown that only a part of these aging migrants return to their countries of origin after retirement, whereas a larger part decides to stay permanently in the receiving country or to commute between both countries. Growing old in the context of migration has thus become a hot topic for many societies. Based on research from several European countries with large shares of immigrants, namely UK, Estonia, Denmark and Luxembourg, the special issue aging and migration focuses on some key questions regarding aging migrants. For instance, what do we know about cultural and ethnic identities of older migrants and how these are related to their transnational family relationships? How can social networks and intergenerational family solidarity of older migrants be described? What are specifics of care in the context of acculturation? The present contributions give some first answers to these questions, taking also into account how subjective well-being of aging migrants and their families might be enhanced. We conduct a value relevance study for the 600 largest European companies with the Feltham and Ohlson valuation model as a reference point. Our results indicate that for the observation period 2001 to 2011, the association between corporate sustainability and market value is positive. The empirical evidence of a positive relationship between GRI reporting and market value is statistically significant in some but not all of the model specifications. We find no evidence of interaction between the value relevance of corporate sustainability and sustainability reporting, nor do we find any positive effect of external assurance on the capital market perception of GRI application levels. Our results support the notion that conducting business in accordance with ethical norms is also a shareholder valueincreasing business strategy. However, it is not possible to verify the information given in sustainability reports through external assurance. Apps installed by a user's friends can collect and potentially misuse her personal data inflicting collateral damage on the user while leaving her without proper means of control. In this paper, we present a multi-faceted study on the collateral information collection of apps in social networks. We conduct a user survey and show that Facebook users are concerned about this issue and the lack of mechanisms to control it. Based on real data, we compute the likelihood of collateral information collection affecting users; we show that the probability is significant and depends on both the friendship network and the popularity of the app. We also show its significance by computing the proportion of exposed user attributes including the case of profiling, when several apps are offered by the same provider. Finally, we propose a privacy dashboard concept enabling users to control the collateral damage. InLuxembourg, field tests with 20 centralized and 60 decentralized mechanical ventilation systems insingle- and multi-family homes were conducted in order to measure the actual performance of thosesystems in occupied buildings. The considered parameters were: Main air flows, internal and externalrecirculation, sensitivity to differential pressure, specific fan power and heat recovery efficiency. In manycases, the performance of the ventilation units was lower than expected. The systems showed deviationsbetween supply and exhaust flows of up to 60%. In particular, the air flow in decentralized units wasstrongly influenced by pressure differences between the inside and outside due to wind or stack effectswhich leads to a decreased heat recovery efficiency. The total mean recirculation ratio was 6.5%, with astandard deviation of 12.5% for centralized and 13 ± 6.2% for decentralized devices. As a consequence,the delivered flow of fresh air is smaller by the amount of recirculation. The specific fan power, theratio between air flow and power consumption, was measured with 0.475 ± 0.37 Wh/m3for centralizedand 0.22 ± 0.023 Wh/m3for decentralized systems. The lower value for the decentralized systems canbe explained by lower pressure losses due to the lack of ductwork. The heat recovery efficiency was0.65 ± 0.24 for centralized systems and 0.7 ± 0.17 for decentralized systems which is significantly lowerthan nominal values provided by the manufacturers. The results of this study show that the overall energyefficiency of ventilation devices installed in residential buildings under real working conditions are oftenlower than expected. These findings could possibly serve as indicators for future research & developmentat manufacturer and commissioning level. [more ▼] The biological effects of urolithins remain poorly characterized, despite wide-spread human exposure via the dietary consumption of their metabolic precursors, the ellagitannins, which are found in the pomegranate fruit, as well as in nuts and berries. We identified urolithin A (UA) as a first-in-class natural compound that induces mitophagy both in vitro and in vivo following oral consumption. In C. elegans, UA prevented the accumulation of dysfunctional mitochondria with age and extended lifespan. Likewise, UA prolonged normal activity during aging in C. elegans, including mobility and pharyngeal pumping, while maintaining mitochondrial respiratory capacity. These effects translated to rodents, where UA improved exercise capacity in two different mouse models of age-related decline of muscle function, as well as in young rats. Our findings highlight the health benefits of urolithin A and its potential application in strategies to improve mitochondrial and muscle function. Modern acousto-optic devices, including optical mode conversion process between ordinary and extraordinary light waves (and vice versa), remain limited to the megahertz range. Here, using coherent acoustic waves generated at tens of gigahertz frequency by a femtosecond laser pulse we reveal the mode conversion process and show its efficiency in ferroelectric materials such as BiFeO3 and LiNbO3. Further to the experimental evidence, we provide a complete theoretical support to this all-optical ultrafast mechanism mediated by acousto-optic interaction. By allowing the manipulation of light polarization with gigahertz coherent acoustic phonons, our results provide a novel route for the development of next-generation photonic-based devices and highlight new capabilities in using ferroelectrics in modern photonics. We report here an update to the Parallel Worm Tracker software, which we termed the Movement Tracker. The Movement Tracker allows variable experimental setups to provide cross-platform automated processing of a variety of movement characteristics in both worms and flies and permits the use of simple physical setups that can be readily implemented in any laboratory. Mitochondrial dysfunction activates an unfolded protein response (UPR(mt)), a stress signaling mechanism designed to ensure mitochondrial homeostasis. Perturbation of mitochondria during larval development in C. elegans not only delays aging but also maintains UPR(mt) signaling, suggesting an epigenetic mechanism that modulates both longevity and mitochondrial proteostasis throughout life. We identify the conserved histone lysine demethylases jmjd-1.2/PHF8 and jmjd-3.1/JMJD3 as positive regulators of lifespan in response to mitochondrial dysfunction across species. Reduction of function of the demethylases potently suppresses longevity and UPR(mt) induction, while gain of function is sufficient to extend lifespan in a UPR(mt)-dependent manner. A systems genetics approach in the BXD mouse reference population further indicates conserved roles of the mammalian orthologs in longevity and UPR(mt) signaling.
