[more ▼] The use of integrated assessment models, in air quality policy, which combines atmospheric models with others from different fields, raises the need of developing specific air quality modelling concepts. The air quality model, AUSTAL2000-AYLTP uses an adapted version of AUSTAL2000 model to calculate transport coupled with a fast photochemical module. Two approaches are compared: one using a look-up table and the other using a coupled box model. The lookup table has been built using the OZIPR model by simulating a large set of possible combinations of meteorological variables and precursor concentrations. The second approach consists of coupling the Lagrangian model AUSTAL2000 with the OZIPR box model. In both approaches the photochemistry is included in the mode by using a quasi-linear reaction rates coefficient which is used to affect the mass of the Lagrangian particles. We discuss the differences and the suitability of the two model versions, through exploring CPU time flexibility, applicability and accuracy. [more ▼] In this short note, we aim at a qualitative framework for modeling multivariate risk. To this extent, we consider completely distributive lattices as underlying universes, and make use of lattice functions to formalize the notion of risk measure. Several properties of risk measures are translated into this general setting, and used to provide axiomatic characterizations. Moreover, a notion of quantile of a lattice-valued random variable is proposed, which is shown to retain several desirable properties of its real-valued counterpart. [more ▼] Throughout the world, development policies have made great strides toward addressing structural inequalities which have traditionally characterized and divided world regions. Nonetheless, many development challenges remain, in part because effective governance strategies are still evolving in local, national and global development systems. The global economic crisis of 2008‐2009 highlighted this fact as global leaders publicly declared the need for new forms of governance and economic regulation. This book examines poverty and development within the framework of recent global crises and governance with contributions from the 2010 Conference of the Consortium for Regional Integration and Social Cohesion keynote panels that focused in particular on concepts of fragility, development, vulnerability and democracy. [more ▼] This paper analyzes the impact of foreign investments on a small country's economy in the context of international competition. To that end, we model tax and infrastructure competition within a differential game framework between two unequally sized countries. The model accounts for the widely recognized characteristic that small states are more flexible in their political decision making than larger countries. However, we also acknowledge that small size is associated with limited institutional capacity in the provision of public goods. The model shows that the long-term outcome of international competition crucially depends on the degree of capital mobility. In particular, we show that flexibility mitigates against - but does not eliminate - the likelihood of collapse in a small economy. Finally, we note that the beneficial effect of flexibility in a small state increases with its inefficiency in providing public infrastructure and with the degree of international openness.
