[more ▼] Emotions toward a relationship partner provide relevant and specific information about relationship quality. Based on this assumption the present study was performed to identify different types of emotional relationship quality of middle-aged adult children with their aging parents. This was done by cluster analytic procedures in a sample of 1,208 middle-aged adult children (482 men, 726 women). Using ratings of positive and negative emotions toward their mother and their father as grouping variables, the same four-cluster solution emerged for both the child-mother relationship and the child-father relationship. Clusters were labelled as amicable, disharmonious, detached, and ambivalent relationships. Results showed that especially amicable relationships clearly prevailed followed by ambivalent, detached, and disharmonious relationships. Clusters differed significantly with respect to gender of adult child, willingness to support, expected parental support, and overt conflicts. In a cross-classification of cluster membership regarding the child-mother relationship (4 clusters) and the child-father relationship (4 clusters), all possible 16 combinations were observed, with a considerable degree of divergence regarding the type of relationship quality within the same family. Results are discussed with respect to types of emotional relationship quality, within family differences, and the intrafamilial regulation of relationship quality. [more ▼] Fast helium atoms diffracted at alkali-halide surfaces under grazing angles of incidence exhibit intriguing diffraction patterns. The persistence of quantum coherence is remarkable, considering high surface temperatures and high (keV) kinetic energies of the incident atoms. Dissipative and decohering effects such as the momentum transfer between the incident helium atoms and the surface influence the diffraction patterns and control the width of the diffraction peaks, but they are weak enough to preserve the visibility of the diffration patterns. We perform an ab initio simulation of the quantum diffraction of fast helium beams at a LiF (100) surface in the < 110 > direction. Our results agree well with recent experimental diffraction data. [more ▼] This paper presents the results of an explorative, comparative protocol analysis of two design meetings that focused on identifying how the style of the Design Task Description influences the course and the outcome of an idea generation meeting. A framework is used to allocate potential influencing factors, including the DTD, and to discuss the various relationships and influences in order to understand the differences in course and outcome of the meetings. The style of the DTD was found to influence the length of the analysis phase and lead to differences in the course of the two idea generation meetings and to a higher idea generation rate. [more ▼] This paper shows typical security and consistency challenges regarding the models of the business and the IT universe of the dynamic service-, process- and rule-based environment at Credit Suisse. It presents a theoretical solution for enterprise engineering that is implementable, and fits smoothly with the daily needs and constraints of the people in the scenario. It further enables decentralized modeling based on cognitive and mathematical or logical concepts. Normative aspects of the models are analyzed by graph constraint checks, while consistency is checked and ensured by model integration and transformation. To cope with theoretical and practical necessities, the presented solution is kept sound and usable as well as extensible and scalable. All techniques are based on one theoretical framework: algebraic graph theory. Therefore, the techniques are compatible with each other. Therefore, continuity processes are needed as backup solutions. At the same time business processes are required to comply with security, risk and compliance requirements. In the context discussed here, they should be modeled in a decentralized local and declarative way, including methodological support by tools. By discussing a simplified loan granting process in the context of a Business Continuity Management System at Credit Suisse, we show how algebraic graph transformation can contribute a methodologically sound solution being compatible with all these requirements in a coherent way. As a consequence significant benefits of automation and quality can be realized. The presented contribution is theoretically sound and implementable by the people in the field. [more ▼] Switch equivalence for transformation systems has been successfully used in many domains for the analysis of concurrent behaviour. When using graph transformation as modelling framework for these systems the concept of negative application conditions (NACs) is widely used -- in particular for the specification of operational semantics. In this paper we show that switch equivalence can be improved essentially for the analysis of systems with NACs by our new concept of permutation equivalence. Two derivations respecting all NACs are called permutation-equivalent if they are switch-equivalent disregarding the NACs. In fact, there are permutation-equivalent derivations which are not switch-equivalent with NACs. As main result of the paper, we solve the following problem: Given a derivation with NACs, we can efficiently derive all permutation-equivalent derivations to the given one by static analysis. The results are based on extended techniques for subobject transformation systems which have been introduced recently. [more ▼] The power consumption of municipal and industrial sewage plants has increased over the last decade because of enhanced requirements on nutrient removal. In addition, the cost for external power provision has significantly increased in the last years. The portion of the energy cost today is about 5 to 10 % of the annual cost of wastewater treatment. However, compared with the operational cost of wastewater treatment a much higher portion must be related to power consumption. With the tool of an energy analysis the energy consumption related to wastewater treatment can be efficiently optimized. Energy analyses carried out by the authors on sewage plants in Germany show that an increased energy efficiency of sewage treatment can be achieved.
