The 5th Conference on Chinese Language and Culture To create a platform for high-quality research and share the latest ideas related to Chinese language teaching, the Confucius Institute at the University of Luxembourg drawing upon the resources of the University of Luxembourg and its partner university, Fudan University, will hold its fifth Conference on Chinese Language and Culture on 24 September 2022. Time and Programme The conference will take place on Saturday 24 September 2022 from 10:00 to 12:30 (lunch is planned on site). Session 1: Lectures by 2 professors from Fudan University (10:00-11:00) Professor. Dr. WANG Xiaoman Professor. Dr. JI Xiaojing (Fudan University) (Fudan University) They will respectively focus on new multimodal communication practices and methods used by learners in multilingual contexts which naturally lead teachers to rethink their approaches and incorporate media into their Chinese teaching strategies and how to organise a Chinese class oriented by ability training of students. Session 2: Lectures by 2 professors from the University of Luxembourg (11:00-11:30) Professor. Dr. Eve LEJOT Professor. Dr. Marion KRAMES (University of Luxembourg) (University of Luxembourg) Multilingual teaching and the promotion of multilingualism among students are important principles of the University of Luxembourg. For their implementation, a variety of e-learning resources are used, adapted to the needs of the learners. They will give an overview of new multimodal communication practices and methods used by learners in multilingual contexts which naturally lead teachers to rethink their approach and incorporate media into their teaching strategies. The hybrid nature of devices (computers, tablets, televisions, smartphones, paper, interactive whiteboards, etc.) and digital tools (document sharing platforms, online correction tools, interactive exercises, online learning programmes, dictionaries, video editing software, automatic pronunciation correction, etc.) offer a great potential to interactive and mobile teaching and learning. They will illustrate this potential by giving an example of how to develop text production competence in Chinese as a foreign language in a motivating way using the content management system Moodle. Their reflection aims at optimising the quality of language teaching both in and out of the classroom. Session 3: Experiences and open discussion with Chinese teachers based in Luxembourg (11:30-12:30) All the teachers involved in teaching Chinese language and culture are welcome to come along and share their experiences to enhance teaching methods and optimise student engagement.
